Itā€™s one of the biggest challenges as a digital marketer. Well today, the team at Instagram wants to make your life a bit easier by dropping a DEEP DIVE into how their ranking algorithms works.

Instagram has always been tricky for marketers. It doesnā€™t rely on just one algorithm. Instead , it uses a variety of them for each separate part of the app.

That means there are separate algorithms forā€¦

  • Your Feed

  • Stories

  • Explore

  • Reels

  • And Search

When youā€™re a small business, embracing loss leaders can be tough. So we donā€™t recommend this strategy to everyone.

But when you can look further into the future, and recoup the money spent on your loss leaders at a later time, you can become lethal with your marketing.

And that leads us to todayā€™s daily hack. Embracing loss leaders.

Paid ads are our favorite way to scale because of how FAST it is.

Once we have an ad that's working, we just turn the dial up with more ad spend. Of course, ads can get expensive ā€“ especially as you increase your ad spend and target colder audiences.

At some point, you'll need to accept losing money on the front end with paid ads in order to compete. Many companies aren't willing to do this, but if you're prepared to only recover 50%-75% of your money on day 0, you can outcompete others for ads.

For example, the direct response giant Agora is known to sometimes spend $300 for a $40 sale! 

They do this because they have extremely strong backends, and the financing to survive a 6-month breakeven period.

This strategy allows them to outbid their competitors on ads, helping them scale rapidly.

You donā€™t need to go that extreme, but by embracing the concept of loss leaders and being willing to lose money upfront, you can outmaneuver your competition, dominate ad space, and step on the gas of your businessā€™ growth.
