Email providers are filtering emails more than ever in 2023. And even if your messages aren’t hitting Spam folders, there’s a strong chance they are being filtered heavily by certain providers.

Today, we’re sharing 4 quick tips to help ensure your emails are kept out of both the Spam and promotions folders.

These tips can have a big impact on your open rates…

#1 - Write Original Content

It sounds obvious, but it’s extremely important. Make your content as original as possible.

Any text that is cut and pasted from somewhere else online will be immediately flagged as SPAM. This is one of the biggest SPAM triggers there is.

Careful with AI too. Make sure it sounds like a person wrote your message - and not like it was just another ChatGPT cut and paste job.

Plus, think of your audience. Do they really want to read something you just pulled from somewhere else? Give them the original content they signed up for, and they’ll open at a much higher rate!

#2 - Avoid Trigger Words at All Costs

There are certain words that will absolutely get your messages filtered.

Of course, these have been flagged as trigger words since so many scammers have used them in the past.

Some examples include:

• 100% free

• $$$

• Change your life

• Apply now

• Cash bonus

You get the idea. If it sounds fishy to you, don’t use it in your email. And never use them in your subject line.

#3 - Simplify Your Email

You don’t need an advanced or complex template to send successful emails. In fact, simpler is almost always better.

The simpler the email is, the more likely it will end up in the subscriber’s inbox, rather than the Promotional tab. And plain HTML is the simplest form of email.

Plain HTML offers the best deliverability.

#4 - Perfect Your Subject Lines

You can spend hours or even days crafting the perfect email or message. And when it comes time to write the subject line, you spend a minute or two.

Not surprisingly, no one opened. You made the subject line an afterthought…

Nothing is more important for opens, and for avoiding filters, than the subject line.

Keep your subject lines simple. Don’t try to do too much. Remember, the ONLY goal of the subject line is getting people to open. And avoid those trigger words!
